SMS Terms & Conditions

SMS program terms for Alto Practice, the secure messaging platform used by healthcare practices. Includes opt-in, opt-out (STOP), HELP, message types, and consent requirements.

Last updated: August 17, 2026

1. Program Overview

Alto Practice is a secure cloud-based Electronic Health Record (EHR), patient portal, practice management, and communications platform used by licensed healthcare professionals. Alto Practice provides the messaging infrastructure through which participating healthcare practices send transactional and healthcare-related text messages to patients who have provided affirmative, documented consent.

Alto Practice is not a healthcare provider and does not provide medical care, medical advice, or treatment. Every SMS is sent by Alto Practice and identifies the participating healthcare practice in the message body (for example, "Alto Practice: Reminder — you have an appointment tomorrow with [Practice Name]…").

This program is used only for transactional and administrative healthcare communications. Alto Practice does not use this messaging campaign for promotional, advertising, or unrelated marketing SMS.

Message types may include appointment reminders and confirmations, appointment changes, billing notifications, payment confirmations, secure portal notifications, document and form reminders, and other administrative healthcare communications.

2. How Messaging Works

When you opt in, you agree to receive text messages through the Alto Practice platform from your healthcare provider. SMS consent is optional, separate from acceptance of our Privacy Policy or Terms of Service, and is not required to receive healthcare services or portal access.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile carrier plan.

3. Consent Is Voluntary — Not Required for Care

Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of receiving healthcare services, treatment, or access to the patient portal. You may decline SMS notifications and still receive care.

4. Where Do I Sign Up to Receive SMS Messages?

SMS enrollment requires affirmative action after you review the current SMS disclosure. Opt-in controls default to off or unchecked.

Staff intake — phone number collection

When practice staff collect a patient's mobile number during intake, SMS consent is presented on the same screen as the phone field. The SMS toggle defaults to off.

Electronic onboarding — phone number collection

During secure electronic onboarding, patients enter their mobile number on the contact information step. The full SMS disclosure, Privacy Policy and Terms links, and an unchecked consent checkbox appear on that same step.

Patient portal — Communication Preferences

After signing in to the secure patient portal, open Profile → Communication Preferences. If SMS is off, tap Enable text messages, review the disclosure, check the consent box, and confirm opt-in.

Other documented opt-in methods

  1. Staff-recorded verbal consent — staff reads the disclosure and records your agreement
  2. Paper form or imported prior consent — documented by the Practice where permitted

5. How to Opt Out

Patient portal

Sign in to the patient portal, open Profile → Communication Preferences, and turn the SMS / Text toggle off.
